Displaying holiday cards

Tis’ the season for your mailman to begin stuffing your mailbox full of happiness and cheer…all in the form of colorful and bright holiday cards.

I know so many people have shared with me… ‘I don’t send cards anymore’ or ‘its such a hassle.’ Bah-humbug! In this day of social media and texting, shouldn’t sending a traditional holiday greeting by the good ‘ol post office be all the more important during the holidays?

We are reminded each day during the holiday season to be kinder, to be more charitable and to express our gratitude. All that can be accomplished through a Christmas card (not a Christmas text or Facebook post)!

So when the cards start rolling in, I really relish in reading each one and enjoying the graphics or the family photos included with each. Hey, I design my own Christmas cards, so I know the amount of time and money it can take….I always make sure to appreciate those that have sent to me!

For years, I felt that once I received the card, it was then hidden away in a basket or a pile…never to be seen again until it was time to throw it away. Never again! The Christmas Gals have compiled a few creative ideas of how you can display your holiday cards this season!

Using Command hooks, twine and decorative clothespins, Shendra displays her family’s own Christmas cards from over the years.

Christmas Gal Shendra has created this centerpiece wall display in her kitchen which actually displays each of her family’s own Christmas cards over the years. Its been a wonderful way to show how each of her darling boys have grown over the years!

Quite possibly the easiest way to display the cards on your wall is to create a Christmas tree design photo display string. Year round, you can display your favorite photos on this handy wall tool, but come Christmas get creative with garland and washi tape!

Books are virtually everywhere in our home and it would make my heart sing to see these books put to a better use than just stacked on a shelf. This oh-so simple display idea has you positioning Christmas cards in an old book. Genius!

Find some twine and small clothespins for this next project! As you receive cards throughout the season, add them to a garland you wrap around the Christmas tree. Really, it is a perfect place to display your friends and family, and also draw more attention to your tree.

Craftiness is not necessary for this next display idea! Gather up clothespins and a wired wreath frame. You can choose to spray paint the clothespins, or cover with festive washi tape or just purchase already in festive colors! Then, follow this easy tutorial to create this one-of-a-kind card display! I love when these are displayed as a front door wreath (only if you have a storm door to keep it from the weather)! Otherwise, find a great place on an interior wall.

CRAFT MUST HAVE: I’ve mentioned ‘washi tape’ a few times in this blog. Do you own washi tape? Washi tape is a masking-like tape that is super durable and flexible and is available in a variety of widths, textures, patterns and colors. It is inexpensive to purchase and I always have a few patterns on hand for different holidays, especially Christmas!

This is hands-down our favorite way to display holiday cards this year! Check out your local garage sales and thrift stores to see if you can source an old pair of winter skis.

Simply lean the skis against the wall with a small tree or Christmas plant next to it and begin to hang those sweet cards!
