DIY gift: Easy gifts from kids

Every year, I pride myself on creating sentimental crafts that my children make for their grandparents. Every year, though, I am completely stressed about what creative idea I can develop to be sure these gifts from my children are creative and memorable.

This year, I stumbled onto what might be one of the easiest DIY gift ideas yet!

WARNING to GRANDMAS: Grandma Tricia and Grandma Kathleen should not read any further. Or, they should at least act surprised when they receive these gifts!

Printer + paint + thumbprints!

Through this blog, I’ve found that creating my own printables is an easy and inexpensive way to get the look and feel I want in my Christmas decor. Using that same focus, I’ve created this FREE printable for ‘Happy HOLLY Days.’

Click on the links above to download this FREE printable 8×10. PDF and JPG available.

Have a color printer? You can do this project!

Each file (we have provided both a PDF and JPG versions) can be printed on a typical 8.5×11″ sheet of paper. I recommend using card stock.

Find some red or pink paint in your craft cupboard and squirt just a little onto a paint tray or disposable plate.

My sweet Evelyn loves to paint! She showed much restraint ONLY painting with her thumb on this project.

Whether you have one child or five children, have each dip his or her thumb into the paint and then create ‘berries’ on the holly wreath with their little thumbprints.

I added a little bit of white paint after each child (I have three) so that there were different variations in the berry colors. Allow the paint to dry overnight and then frame this DIY gift.

You can splurge on an expensive frame or score a deal at your local discount store. The wood frames I used for our project were less than $4 each at a large retailer.

Because this project was so easy, but sweet…I went ahead and made three; one for each grandma and one for ME!

Finished product! The framed piece is on display in our bedroom.
