Changes make this the favorite room in the house

My dining room has seen the biggest transformation this year.

In our home, one of the first things you see when you enter through the front door is the dining room, and during the holidays this room is used quite a bit for family gatherings and meals.

My 10-year-old flocked tree lives in the corner of this room and for the past five or so years has had a color theme of aqua blue, apple green, silver and chocolate brown.  It was mostly inspired by colors from a peacock and I have loved this tree!

This tree, more than any others, has experienced quite the transformation over the years.

The dining room decorated at Christmas last year.

Last year, I thought about changing the colors up a tiny bit so this tree looked like it matched the room better. My dining room is navy blue and white.  So I thought about taking out the green and brown and adding navy, red and gold and keeping the aqua.  Well, the results have me a bit stunned and totally in love.

New color scheme on the dining room tree this year. Wow!

The tree itself is beautiful, but because it looks like it’s been designed to match the room the whole effect is stunning!

Red, gold, silver, aqua and navy make up the colors in this flocked tree.

One big change to the look of the tree was how I hung my garland beads. Instead of draping them along tree branches, I chose to hang the bead vertically.  Instead of seeing some beads hanging in a semi-circle from branch to branch, they are acting more like very long dripping tinsel.   The effect is very dramatic, and I like it so much better this year.

The new and improved tree for this year!

Gold seems to be back in a big way this year!  I haven’t really bought any new gold ornaments in a long time.  I had shunned gold for more than five years now and just added silver ornaments.  The gold mixed in on this adds so much to the overall look.

The table is always set for guests (and to display these beautiful plates)!

This room also looks so much different because I added a buffet and hutch this summer.  I ordered it in June, it arrived in August and all I could think about was decorating it for Christmas!

It was fun to be able to mix colors on this, but I was sure to add some navy-blue accents to help make it all look like it belongs together.  I used oversized Christmas platters that I received for Christmas last year from my parents.

The new buffet and hutch gives so much space to display treasured collectibles at Christmas.

I found this adorable Santa in a car with an art deco feel that has some aqua and teals in it.  I found some navy accented reindeer at Big Lots, and some beautiful navy ribbon at Hobby Lobby.  I could easily mix in some traditional red Santas with the red on the tree, and my table is decorated with red and gold accents.

I could sit in this room for hours!

Last night during some quiet time, I asked my oldest which tree was his favorite.  He said he couldn’t choose, they were all his favorite.  I said, if you have to choose just one, which would it be, and he answered the dining room tree!

When I him asked why…he said he loves all the fancy ornaments on this tree! That warms this momma’s heart….and inspires me to keep decorating this special space in our home.
