Pop of color this holiday season

I like to say I’m a traditionalist when it comes to holiday decorating, in particular to the colors I use.

I like red. I like green. I like white and maybe a little blue.

Okay, I’m boring.

I admit, though, that I love to live vicariously through the pages of magazines and the boards on Pinterest, especially this year where splashes of color seem to be everywhere.

Amber Oliver’s rainbow inspired Christmas tree.

And, even though I most likely won’t be changing up my boring, I mean, traditional trees and decor colors, I’m sure happy to spread some color-love with our readers.

PINK NOT JUST FOR GIRLS

Pink and aqua and mint green are oftentimes colors that are relegated to the bedspreads and curtains of little girls’ rooms. No more. These uniquely vintage inspired hues have made their way from the bedroom to the mantle, the living room and beyond this year.

Elle Decor spotlighted some of the very best swoon-worthy pink trees.

Pops of pink and aqua blend beautifully with gold and white accents on this flocked tree.

A very new, but vintage inspired light pink tree brings an ‘old Hollywood’ feel with the addition of black and white striped, and gold balls.

This North Pole approved pink tree spotlights vintage Santas and pops of kelly green and gold balls.

More pink? We gotcha. Download and print this free pink-inspired 5×7 printable to start your new pink Christmas obsession.

SEEING RAINBOWS

Last year, large retailers began carrying a variety of colorful trees, one of the most striking being the rainbow tree.

Rainbow tree or rainbow ornaments….both are becoming more and more popular, offering an injection of whimsy and happiness to our season of joy.

DIY COLOR

The prospect of buying all new ornaments or decor to follow this colorful trend may be a little daunting and expensive. There are more than a few ideas to incorporate more color that are low cost or do-it-yourself additions this season.

This amazing tree and mantel from Karen Whitten are sugary sweet with candy inspired hues of pink and aqua. The trick? Spray painted Styrofoam balls don the mantel and serve as oversized Christmas balls…even a tree topper!

Impressed? We were and so was Martha Stewart, who offered step by step instructions of how to recreate this look.

Inject a rainbow or other colorful theme to your decor with this incredibly simple craft using only wrapping ribbon or bows. Blogger Amber Oliver even offers instructions of how to create the cone base with materials you already may have.

NOT JUST ORNAMENTS

Candles, pillows and even book spines can all carry out this bright and beautiful theme when sorted in the proper rainbow order. Some of the more creative ideas we spotted were:

Organize books in a rainbow pattern to play off the same holiday colors.
Create a rainbow tablescape with colorful candles and painted pine cone candle holders.
